Final Fantasy XIV Fishing Quests

Among the many ways you can level up your gathering classes in Final Fantasy XIV, one of the best is through job quests. These small, easy-to-complete jobs allow you to earn chunky EXP while doing something enjoyable and a bit less grindy than simply going around the world turning in Grand Company turn-ins or plowing through main story content. And while fishing doesn’t have the same kind of big-ticket gear as the other gathering jobs (that comes later, and only after you get to 61), there are plenty of goodies for fishers who like to churn out a good number of these turn-ins.

Upon accepting the Way of the Fisher quest, Sisipu at the Guild Receptionist in Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks will have you meet with Ansaulme, an old fellow who claims to be quite familiar with the art of fishing in Ishgard. He has a request for you, which will require you to travel to Ishgard to pursue it.

When you return to the guild, he will instruct you to hunt for high-quality striped goby and bring them back to him at Fallgourd Float in North Shroud. This is a fairly simple gig, which you can do as often as three times per leve. This is a great way to get some nice equipment for your fishing rod and gain some EXP at the same time!

Sisipu is pleased with your progress, but she has another task for you before granting you the title of fishbringer. A representative from the Brugaire Consortium has approached the guild, and Sisipu asks you to assist.

She instructs you to use pill bugs to catch a few harbor herring and deliver them to her at the Lower Decks. She believes that the herring will demonstrate your mastery of the basics.

Once you’ve done this, she will be thrilled and proclaim you a true fishbringer. However, the incorrigible Wawalago makes his presence known and reminds her that there are still many more challenges ahead.

Tocktix is elated to receive the fullmoon sardine you’ve brought him, and he calls you a legendary fishbringer. Sisipu chides him for his rumormongering, but agrees that it’s a fine title.

Afterward, Sisipu will challenge you to test your skills in the wild. She wants you to head to Quarrymill in Upper La Noscea and fish for five warmwater trout using a Crow Fly lure. This is a fairly easy stretch, and you should be able to reach it at around level 20.

At this point, you’ll want to start working on Studium Deliveries as a good way to level up your fishing. Our FFXIV guide for this section has more information about how to complete them, including where to find the rarer fishes you’ll be looking for and what bait to use. This is a good time to also buy some new bait, such as the Snout and Tail lure from the junkmonger in the housing districts, which will give you a decent boost to your skill.
