The game boasts a levelling system that allows players to progress through a series of missions and earn cash and XP to unlock new gear and locations. There are also gems which will be awarded for completing missions, as well as a number of perks that will help you along the way.
Those looking for the latest and greatest in fishing games should look no further than Ultimate Games and Forever Entertainment’s offering on the Switch. Despite its limited budget, it still manages to deliver a high quality depiction of the sport.
The gaming experience itself is a mixed bag with a few notable blemishes. The UI is clunky and unintuitive, resulting in some frustrating situations for novice players. However, the game’s other strengths include a clever levelling system and a healthy dose of luck to keep you engaged.
A smorgasbord of rods, reels and baits to choose from
The sheer number of fishing rods, reels and baits is mind boggling at times. For example, there are a staggeringly high number of different types of lures in the game ranging from plastic worms to gill nets.
There are also a handful of different locations in which to catch the big one, with more than enough to satisfy even the most dedicated fisherman.
Some of the more exotic and challenging species can be found at higher levels, but it isn’t always a given that the best fish will be on hand. In the end, it comes down to a matter of personal preference.
Using the right hook and the correct line is crucial to reeling in a prized catch.
The game also uses a surprisingly clever physics engine to model fish and their movements. Combined with a clever camera system, the result is a highly realistic fishing experience.
