INSHORE

The Redfish bite has been excellent for anglers this week! They’re riddled throughout the inshore waters from canals to the bay. Look for them near inlets during a moving tide in roughly 6-8 ft of water. Flounder (Kingfish, Southern) are biting well in the bay this week as well. They’re primarily in deeper holes and grassy areas that are best reached with Shrimp or MirrOlures. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are also starting to bite consistently inshore this week as they begin their summer run. They’re a bit inconsistent but you can find them in the channel near bridges as well as in the bay on moving tides. Sheepshead (Sheepshead, Southern) have fired up as well. They’re a bit more difficult to find but you can catch them off of the pier in the bay or on moving tides near the beach.

BAIT REPORT – There’s plenty of bait inshore right now including Greenies, Cigar Herring, and hardtails. It won’t be long before you can fill a Sabiki or cast net with a variety of live baits! The best bait for the Redfish however is shrimp, so don’t hesitate to stock up on that. There’s also a lot of small Pompano (Pompano, Black Drum) around right now and the bigger ones are hitting the shorelines. This is a great time of year to throw a jig for them!

OFFSHORE

If you’re willing to head out a bit further the offshore bite has turned on. Amberjacks have opened up on the bottom along with a solid Triggerfish bite in 140 ft or less. Closer in you can still catch Sheepshead and Spanish Mackerel on the troll.

Wahoo are also showing up on the troll, especially further out at the oil rigs. If you’re looking for a challenge book a deep sea fishing trip with an experienced captain, they’ll help you target these trophy fish!
