How to Fish in Valheim

Food is an essential part of every survival game, and valheim is no exception. While it is possible to plant crops, hunt boar, and harvest other resources in valheim, fishing is one of the most convenient ways to get food. In order to catch fish, however, you’ll need a fishing rod and some bait.

Thankfully, unlike in many other games in the genre, the fishing rod is not a rare item and can be purchased for a relatively reasonable price from Haldor the merchant. With this in hand, all you need to do is head to a river or ocean and look for a location that appears populated by fish. They’re usually pretty easy to spot as they school beneath the water and occasionally jump up. Once you have spotted a fish, click e on your keyboard or A on your controller to attempt to reel it in. Doing so will drain your stamina, so be sure to have a supply of food and bait handy.

In addition to being a good way to gain some experience with the fishing skill, catching fish will also allow you to add a new food source to your diet, which will help with both health and hunger regeneration. Each fish has a different nutrition value, ranging from one to five stars, and also has an additional effect that is applied when the fish is cooked. The best part is that unlike other foods, a single fish can be eaten several times before it has the same impact as one meal of Neck tails.

If you’re not a fan of fishing or just want to try something new, there are also some recipes that can be made using raw fish. This is a great way to try out some of the more exotic fish that you can’t find anywhere else in the game, and will also provide a nice change of pace from the usual Neck tails and mead.
