Fishing in Terraria is a relaxing activity, but it’s also not without its risks. Players need to keep a close eye on not only their line for the moment when a bite happens, but also any enemies sneaking up behind them. Fortunately, there are plenty of perks to fishing in Terraria, including the ability to catch some very rare fish. This article will detail everything players need to know about the various fishing quest rewards terraria and where to find them.
Unlike many other NPCs, the Angler doesn’t sell anything; instead, he assigns fishing quests to the player and dispenses rewards when they complete them. Those rewards include lots of Coins and the chance to catch one of 41 unique quest fish.
The player’s luck statistic affects their fishing power; bad (negative) luck has a chance of lowering it, while good (positive) luck can increase it. There is a separate chance for each fish caught, and this chance increases as the player completes more quests.
To begin fishing, the player must first unlock the Angler NPC to their town. Then, they need to craft a fishing rod; the simplest one requires only eight Wood to make. Finally, they need to obtain bait. Bait can be found in a variety of ways, including by using a Bug Net on most of the insects and other invertebrates around the world.
Each of the game’s 16 distinct fishing locations can yield different catches, with some of them being more lucrative than others. There are a few conditions that must be met in order to guarantee a specific catch: the player must be within the NPC’s range, it must be daytime, and the lake must be at least 300 blocks high.
Aside from these conditions, the player’s fishing power has a significant impact on the yield of a given catch. For example, a Frost Daggerfish has a low (1 in 250) chance of appearing when the Angler is displeased, but it has an extremely high (0.3375) chance of appearing when the player’s fishing power is 100.
As with most things in the game, there are a few other perks to fishing, including the ability to spawn an exclusive town pet and a higher-tier early mount. In addition, during a Blood Moon event, the player has a chance of catching an exclusive enemy. This is only the case when the player is fishing outside a water biome; inside a water biome, enemies like the Zombie Merman and Wandering Eye Fish have an equal chance of spawning. Fortunately, the player can use a Sonar Potion to see enemies before they spawn. This allows them to better prepare for the attack and potentially avoid losing a fight they could otherwise have won.
